Materials and Safety Research

A safe cannabis cartridge requires three material choices working together: a Transparent PA tank that resists terpene attack without leaching BPA or micro-particles, a Kanthal (FeCrAl) heater coil containing 0% nickel to eliminate heavy metal leaching risk, and FKM (Viton) seals that show zero swell in terpenes to prevent leaks and preserve aroma from fill to final draw.

Why Materials Selection Determines Cartridge Safety

Most cartridge failures trace back to material choices, not manufacturing defects. Heavy metal leaching from nickel-containing coils, terpene-induced stress cracking in polymer tanks, and seal swell causing slow leaks are all predictable consequences of using materials that were never designed for cannabis oil contact.

Cannabis extracts present a uniquely aggressive chemical environment: mildly acidic (pH 3-5), rich in aromatic terpenes that act as organic solvents, and heated to 150-300°C during use.

Three Materials, One Integrated System

Kanthal (FeCrAl) Heater

0% nickel eliminates the largest heavy metal risk category. A self-healing Al₂O₃ ceramic oxide layer seals the core metal from the extract.

Transparent PA Tank

92% light transmission with zero terpene interaction. Resists stress cracking at the 510 thread base where polycarbonate and PCTG fail.

FKM (Viton) Seals

Zero swell in terpenes and aromatics. Maintains sealing force across 6+ months of shelf life, preventing the slow leaks that plague silicone-sealed cartridges.
